Ut oh politics

SJR: Decatur TV station pulls ad criticizing Shimkus; Springfield station refuses request by representative's staff

This is probably one of the toughest races for a federal office in Illinois politics. Both U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) and U.S. Rep. David Phelps (D-Eldorado) are incumbents. They were thrown at each other by the people who wrote the maps redistricting Illinois. They are both nice guys. And, I would suppose that while neither is fond of down and dirty politics, they are both capable of it.

Interesting to note is the fact the one local television station replaced the misinforming ad with a revised version and another one did not. Two sets of standards in local media? Or just two sets of politics?

God forbid the state merge two districts north of Springfield for once. Of course, you have to remember this is the same redistricting map that resulted from a coin flip. By 2020, we'll probably have one district encompassing Bloomington, Springfield, ESTL, and Carbondale...and they'll probably stick in Will County, too, just to screw with "downstate." *sighs*

Ahh, yes. Thanks for reminding me. I had already forgotten the famous coin toss.

We may be closer to your prediction than you think. For a good laugh, check out what they did with the 17th Congressional District. Notice that tiny little sliver running through Sangamon County. That's where I live. Do you get the impression that somebody pissed somebody else off? Or was this a preemptive strike? *rhetorical questions, both*
