Kids say the damnedest things

Yesterday I had an opportunity to visit with a seventh grade kid for about a half hour. It was one of those things where he's sitting in a chair across from my desk. Every time I looked his way, he looked away. Finally, I asked him what grade he was in. That opened the flood gates.

He had lots to say and lots of opinions on a variety of subjects. He is a self-proclaimed expert on several subjects:

School cafeteria food - Don't eat it. Take a bag lunch.

School waste - There's lots of it going on out there. He claimed to have witnessed the throwing away of 30 or so computers.

Travel as a means of education - You can get just as good an education (if not better) traveling as you can sitting in a classroom. He's been to St. Louis and South Carolina. Next year he's going to New Mexico or possibly Venezuela.

Computer games have greatly benefitted him in math. Although, he really prefers to zone out on solitaire.

Kids should help other kids.

All good stuff.
