Friendly fire incident

By now, everyone has probably heard about the friendly fire incident in Afghanistan back in April. American pilots inadvertently bombed Canadian troops who were on a training mission. The pilots, who are from this area, are presently facing proceedings which could lead to a court martial.

Personally, I can't see this going to a full court martial. According to the State Journal Register in this article entitled, Pilots' defense on the Web, "The Canadians had notified the U.S. military of the exercise, but the information was never communicated to the pilots, a military board inquiry later concluded."

Shouldn't whoever made the decision not to inform the pilots bear some culpability?

A legal defense fund has been set up: 183rd Pilots Defense Fund. It's my understanding that the money raised will go to pay for non-JAG attorneys and the like. Give, if you're so inclined.
