Monday Mission 1104

Doin' the PromoGuy Monday Mission while chewing gum at the same time. Because it's Monday.

1. Have you ever had to appear in court? What was the reason? How did it turn out? Oh yeah. Although I have never been a party to a lawsuit or a criminal case, I have appeared in court several times. Once, I was the sole witness for my then boss who was suing a former client for non-payment of attorney's fees. The defendant represented himself. When it was his turn to cross-examine me, he said, "Miss Carnes, where were you on the afternoon of July 8, 1992?" Or something like that. I snorted. He asked the judge for permission to treat me as a hostile witness. The judge directed him to question me only about the bills he claimed he didn't owe. He didn't have any further questions. My boss made his case and got a judgment.

2. Ever been accused of something you never did? Were you able to convince anyone? Yes. With a certain person, this seems to be an ongoing theme in my life. I used to go to great lengths to try to defend myself against certain accusations. Now, though, depending on the severity of the accusation, I no longer bother trying to change the mind of the other person. It's like this. A recent example... He said... Aw, never mind. Tain't worth it, even now.

3. When it comes to crime and punishment, do you agree with the saying "An eye for an eye?" No! Our civilized society is way past that. I hope.

4. Are you a judgemental person? Do you ever make up your mind about a person before you know them? When was the last time that happened? Or if not, how do you keep from being judgemental? I try not to be. Just keep an open mind. Know that when you first meet a person, that the depth of that person's life is a lot more than what you're seeing and hearing for the first time.

5. When I was in 6th grade I lit a match in class accidentally and was given the choice of having my folks called or getting 10 "swats." I took swats and damn, that wooden paddle with the holes drilled in it hurt like hell (not to mention the horible whistling sound it made before impact). I don't think they allow "swats" anymore. Ever get "swats" at school? How do you feel about children being spanked in school. Is it best that they don't do that anymore? How about parents spanking kids? Good or bad? I never got swats in school. Although, corporal punishment was the rule in my day — all the way through high school. I was a good girl. Or so they thought. Heh heh. I did, however, get rapped with a wooden ruler on the knuckles by Miss Rice in the fourth grade. My crime? Holding hands with a boy. He was so cute! I do not believe schools should be in the business of corporal punishment for the sake of rule and order. As for parents, that's a much different story.

6. What is your favorite "Chick Flick?" I don't know. Really. I don't see many chick flicks these days.

7. Describe the last situation you were in that can best be summed up by the phrase "seemed like a good idea at the time?" My life is riddled with situations like that. I don't even know where to start.

BONUS: Who will bury us when we die? Uh, the burial dudes?
