Where are we going?

And why are we in a handbasket?

This town is just way too political, even for a political town. We're steeped in dirty politics around here. The primary is next Tuesday.

Yesterday, I actually heard one of the mayoral candidates arguing with a caller on the radio. To win his point, the mayoral candidate declared that the caller was full of bologna. I think he actually said, "sausage bologna." I'm not really sure. It could be that I just want some of the sausage.

Now, today, yet another candidate is being forced to defend why he stated in various campaign materials that he graduated from college when in fact he was eight hours short of getting a diploma - 23 years ago. This little tidbit was dug up by a reporter. Apparentlly, the guy really thought he got a diploma.

the Cambridge Dictionary tells us that the terms are interchangeable:

bologna, baloney
noun [U]
AMERICAN AND AUSTRALIAN
a cooked, smoked sausage which is sliced and eaten cold

baloney
noun [U]
INFORMAL
nonsense
Baloney! Tell the truth!
That's a load of baloney if you ask me.

Er, hope this helps?
