USS Nassau

She's somewhere out there. In the Persian Gulf. Right now. Waiting. Ready.

Shortly after World War II was won, my dad still had nine months left before he could be discharged from the Navy. The work he did during the war was done. His batallion was totally disbanded. To complete his duty, the Navy assigned him to the USS Nassau - a baby flat top. Many years later, the USS Nassau was decommissioned and scrapped.

Years after that, a new USS Nassau was born. Today's Nassau is an amphibious assault ship. I mention all this because someone we know and love is on that ship tonight. Strangely, confidence and anxiety are both high right now.

According to this article, you're right that they're getting ready to pack up and head home.

My son, Matt, is aboard the USS Nassau. Let's hope they all make it home safe and sound and SOON!

I just heard that two sailors went over board on the Nassau. Does anyone know who they are yet? A good friend of mine is on board

Posted by: cheryl at May 26, 2003 6:41 AM

All I know is that one sailor named Williams fell overboard and was lost.
