A call in the middle of the night

The phone rings in the middle of the night. As in, just a few minutes ago. It was my daughter's friend, Ty, the U.S. Marine with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. She’s not here right now. I ask him, where are you? He replies, "well, I can’t really say." Ahh. Okay. He’s using a calling card and there are only a few minutes left. Quickly, I thanked him for his e-mails, tell him we are constantly thinking about him, give him her cell number, and get off the phone. She just called me and said he got ahold of her.

He is somewhere over there. Last we knew for sure, he was onboard the USS Nassau. But, his unit got sent ashore. According to the 24th MEU web site right now, "Marines and Sailors of the 24th MEU (SOC) are currently in Iraq and have been conducting ground combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom."

Tomorrow I’m sending him a new phone card.
