Pinger 500

Since Saturday all of the pings I've sent to Wander-Lust have come back with a 500 time-out and I'm not showing up on their page.

Also, the last couple pings I've sent to have come back 500 time-out, but I am showing up there. Interesting.

Also interesting, the last couple pings I sent to Blogrolling came back 500 time-out. However, it should be noted that's still in beta (?) by the soon-to-be-svelte Jason.

For this post I've disabled pings to I'll see if that has any effect on the others. I may keep it disabled.

EDIT after the fact: Well, the ping went through, but I got these on the others:

Ping '' failed:

without the 500 error. I might have to change my time-out values if I can remember how to do it.

Your pings aren't timing out. They're getting 403 forbidden. Just got a notice on one a minute ago. Prolly for this post. Are you running any redirects on the URL you're sending to me or do you have any robot filtering going on? My Pinger isn't sending a user agent right now but that will be fixed in the next day or so and it's doing that on some people's sites. Anyway back to work :-)

Yes on the filtering that. Will have to check it out on this end later. Too tired now. Thanks for letting me know.

Good luck and keep up the great work, Jason.

I've actually checked to see if there were an unusually high number of updates listed on the index when it happens but I haven't figured out a pattern yet. This probably says something about how huge weblogging has become. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing.

I get the same problems, but when I check Wander Lust I'm always updated.

Yeah, I can't imagine what would happen to if, say, 5 or 10 thousand weblogs updated at the same time.

When I stopped pinging, the pings started going through again. I don't think that has anything to do with, though. Probably something on my end.

The reason for the error on Wander-Lust is we're not pinging them via rpc (or something like that), but it still goes through. Except in my case. I did something, but I have yet to figure it out.
