Techno folk music

Recently I'm noticing a new trend in background music on television commercials. Well, I don't know if it's an actual trend or not. I'm just calling it that. The best way to describe it is "techno folk." I wonder if anyone else is hearing this. Maybe it's been around for a while, and I'm just now hearing it.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. After I posted this I ran a Google and discovered that this is nothing new, in fact.

I think that, from a marketing demographic perspective, technofolk as background music is a marketer's "wet dream"; as it would have such broad appeal. I gurantee they'll probably go to that well far too often until even ardent fans get sick of hearing it.
