Successful bastard

This guy I’m working for gave me a mini lesson in how to treat the bastards like the bastards they are and deserve to be treated. He’s 77 years old with the energy of a 20 year old and a mind that’s sharp as a tack. He may actually be a genius. As far as I can tell in the short time I”ve known him, it appears he has been extremely successful in everything he’s done. I’ve seen him in action a few times, and he can be a real bastard, himself. I think he’s pretty much had it with me and my little way of “treat ‘em nice and maybe they’ll be nice back.”

In a nutshell, and without getting into specific details, he had me call a guy he is doing business with, demand some specific information, and demand it now. He told me if the guy wouldn’t give me the information right then, to tell the bastard that I was going to kill the deal. A minute later, I took a deep breath and phoned the guy. When the guy said he’d have to look up the information and get back to me, I told him (now holding my breath), that if he didn’t give me the requested information right then, the deal was off. As in right now. Off. Guess what? The guy spilled. I got the information and the deal was closed. Rush.

Afterwards, basking in the glow of my own newfound bastardity, I thought of several times that I could have and should have applied his method in my own life, both personal and business, many times in the past. But, I guess it’s never too late to start.
