Pay attention

Him: You know, I’m leaving on the 25th.
Me: The 15th.
Him: [chuckling] Okay, the 15th. Since I won’t be here very long, I want you to pay better attention to me.
Me: Of course. [scooting my chair closer, knowing that’s not what he meant]
Him: [laughing loudly] Yeah, okay.
