Vampires keep calling the office

So far today:

SBC called with an offer for a local and long distance combo pack.

AT+T called to sell us something. What it was, we never knew. The guy did, however, mention that the laws of Illinois had changed. Wow, you're kidding! Really! Hey, can you send me that in the mail? Not really. No stamps? We usually deal with our customers directly. Hey, I gotta go. When would be a better time to call back? Drowing here... just send me some mail. Okay.

An anonymous stock broker who always hangs up on me when I don't put him through to my boss. Actually, I don't know if it reallly is a stock broker or not. He never would say. That 's just the label I'm assigning the caller for lack of a better phrase. Or, until he spills.

And finally, a new one: Someone marketing chiropractic services to stressed out office workers. Ya know those neck, shoulder and back pains you always get after a stressful day at the office? No. Well, you know those headaches you're always getting from being over worked? No. You don't get headaches? Maybe a few times a year. Well, what pain do you have? As long as I don't run into any walls, fall down, or make any sudden movements, I'm okay. Uh, were you ever in a car accident? Yeah, about 20 years ago. Okay, we'd like to offer you a completely free chiropractic examination with absolutely no obligation. Do you come to the office? No.

That's almost always my ploy with vampires... I just don't have the problem they're trying to solve for me or else I just happen to have bought the product they're touting. ("Sorry, I just finished completely remodeling my house." "Sorry, but I don't own a television machine." "Sorry, but I just bought my cemetery plots.")

FWIW, I have occasional back problems that I once went to a chiroprator for. Didn't do a darn thing for me. Felt good. But didn't do a thing.
