Flat tire

Laura had her first flat tire today. She was at work. The warranty that came with the car included road service. This is the manufacturer’s warranty that carried over from the original owner. She called the company and they sent a guy over to put her spare tire on for her.

Backing up to when she bought the car back in August. She bought it used. One of the “selling points” the salesman used was that they detailed every inch of the car before they put it up for sale. Today, when the road service guy removed the spare from its compartment, underneath the spare was a bunch of garbage, including cigarette butts. So much for detailing every inch.

She didn’t want to wait until Monday to get her tire fixed. I suppose that little spare tire made her uneasy. After making several calls, she determined that Sears and Wal-Mart are the only places you can get tire work done on Saturday night in this town. Sears said they had a two hour wait. Wal-Mart said they could get her right in. So, she took the car to Wal-Mart to get the tire fixed. By the time she drove over there, there was an hour and a half wait.

Finally, they got around to her and pulled two little slivers of plastic out of flat. They informed her that the damage caused by the plastic slivers rendered the tire irreparable. Well, I doubt if they used those exact words. Needless to say, they talked her into buying a new tire. Damn! The Wal-Mart tire was a lot more expensive than I would have expected from them.

There’s more to the story, but it’s over and not worth recounting now. She did learn, however, another untruth told by the car salesman about the tires that came with the car.
