200 new laws

Two hundred new laws go into effect in Illinois today. Among the highlights are:

  • Increase in the minimum wage to $5.50 an hour.
  • Automobile booster safety seats for children ages 4 through 7.
  • Police must now record the race of the driver in traffic stops.
  • No more slow pokes in the left lane.
  • Insurance companies are required to reveal their 19th Century slavery policies.
  • And [drum roll] popcorn is finally the offical state snack food.

Just for the record. Does that mean anyone who violates the popcorn law goes to Joliet?

Right. Unless you're female. Then they send you to Dwight.
