Thanks to KLOTH.net for the card.

Thank goodness I was too young to remember punch cards - Never had to deal with them! I hear horror stories about them though - how someone was walking with a box of punchcards to the computer to run his program, tripped and fell... punch cards all over the place!!! And you want to blog with them?? you're nuts!!! LOL

Here is the one thing I will never forget about punched cards. I have a good friend that had polio as a child. He grew up having to sleep in iron lung. I met him when I worked for a large Texas computer company back in the 70ís. He had a motorized wheelchair and drove it with his feet. The contraption had a breathing apparatus to assist him in breathing. Everything he did, he did with his feet. In those days your computer program was placed on punched cards. Many programmers made their own changes to their programs using a 029 keypunch.

I always remember standing behind my friend and watching him organize his cards and put the newly punched card in its proper position. There was never a day that went by that I didnít see him with a smile on his face and it always made me think if he is happy then everyone should be happy. Seeing someone that could have let a life situation destroy them and yet achieve so much in life should make the rest of us feel ashamed for how little we accomplished.

I had an email from him a month ago. Thanks for reminding me to try to accomplish something today.
