Seven and a half months to go

The Illinois primary races are over and now it's on to November. I think the next seven and a half months are going whiz by.

Barak Obama won the Democratic primary and Jack Ryan won the Republican primary.

Hereís the recent history of that particular seat: Inverness Pub Peter Fitzgerald (1999-2005) succeeded Chicago Dem Carol Moseley-Braun (1993-1999), who succeeded Belleville Dem Alan J. Dixon (1981-1993), who succeeded Chicago Dem Adlai E. Stevenson III (1970-1981), who succeeded Alton Pub Ralph Smith (1969-1970), who succeeded Pekin Pub Everett McKinley Dirksen (1951-1969). I think thatís right. If not, I can't read because I got those facts out of the Illinois Blue Book.

So, from 1951 to 2005 is 54 years. Out of the last 54 years, Republicans have held that seat a total of 25 years. Thatís about half and half. I donít know if thatís significant or not. I just felt like running down the history. I don't even remember Ralph Smith.
