YWCA clock

A shot of the giant clock on the side of the YWCA building. This wall was exposed decades ago when the Abraham Lincoln Hotel next door was imploded. It was a Sunday morning. One minute an eight story brick hotel was there. The next minute, it was gone. An enormous plume of dust and poof. The had state filed eminent domain lawsuits against every property owner on the block. They wanted to build a new government building that would take up the whole block. Everyone settled with the state except the YWCA. The YWCA fought the suit, taking it all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. They won. Thus, the building still stands. Now, the rest of the block is a surface parking lot. The clock came later.
