Stumped meets smart aleck meets Google [repost]

Do: [from the other side of the wall] Hey, Marie. Did your girls ever run track?
Marie: Shin splints.
Do: The chip sprints?
Marie: Uh huh. Why?
Do: My daughter’s in track and the coach put me in charge of finding out how far apart the hurdles are supposed...
Marie: Well, now that you mention it, I did a bit of the jumping meself way back when...
Do: I spent two hours on the internet last night looking...

Marie: Two hours?
Do: ... for how far apart the hurdles are supposed to be in the 100 meter hurdle event.
Marie: Of course, meters hadn’t been invented yet back then.

Do: Yeah.
Marie: [after a short pause] Well, Do, it’s 13 meters to the first hurdle, 8.5 meters between each of the next hurdles, and 10.5 meters from the last hurdle to the finish.
Do: [appears in doorway, agape]
Marie: [leans back in chair, looks misty-eyed toward the decaying ceiling tiles, trying to recall a time way back when...]

Distance between hurdles via "100 meter hurdles are" and a site search just for verification purposes.

EDIt: I changed his name to "Do" to protect his identity and for other reasons known only unto me.
