Fountain pens

Fountain pens never went away. The NYT has an interesting article on the fountain pen as a collectible. (Sometimes, the Collectible Is Mightier Than the Sword.) One particular pen with a hand-painted barrel with scenes from the Bible sells for $9,000.

Writing with a fountain pen takes effort and can be an art that is difficult to master. For the rest of us, there's the rollerball pen. I particularly liked this quote by the author of the article:

And the fountain pen can be an impractical writing tool; at any moment, you may need to stop and fill it with ink - a sort of 19th-century variation on remedying a computer crash.
