Me and Nixon
What do I remember about that day? Mostly I remember being alone in the house, sitting in front of the television, thinking that history is being made as Nixon addressed the nation, and feeling a little sad.
A more vivid memory is my brush with Nixon's Secret Service agents four years earlier.

At the time I was an assistant Scoutmaster with my old troop. I would spend the summer with my parents (working in a factory that manufactured pool chemicals of all things) and on Thursday evenings I would go over to my old troop and teach knots, etc. I still remember encouraging everyone to wrap up early so I could get home to watch the resignation speech. I suppose I felt a little sad, too. Not for Nixon but for the country. As if the country was being hurt or insulted, which I guess it was.
