Oh, that Mark Fletcher

The best thing on the web right now has to be Bloglines. The Mercury News did an interesting and revealing piece on Bloglines and its founder, Mark Fletcher, this week (Bloglines aims for simplicity).

Bloglines can be used to read anything with an RSS or Atom feed. Some of the things I use it for are:

  • Blogs. Lots and lots of blogs.
  • News.
  • Politics.
  • Food and coffee sites (and I don't even drink coffee, but I do eat food).
  • E-mail. Yeah, even e-mail.
  • Photos. Lots of photographers are putting their beautiful work on the web.
  • Link lists.
  • Dilbert. (I'm not a huge comic reader, but a daily dose of Dilbert lets me know I'm not alone out there.)
  • Commerce and shopping.
  • Weather.
  • Ego. Bloglines, with the help of Google and PubSub and Feedster, (either directly or through e-mail) lets me know whenever someone invokes my name, and a few other things, on a web page. Very cool.

It's all free, too.

> whenever someone invokes my name...
Whenever you invoke PubSub's name, we find out about it too! Thanks for mentioning PubSub. If you have any ideas on how we could build a better service for you, please feel free to let us know.

How does the Google-PubSub-Feedster hookup work? What are the details?

I'm blogging how I do this.
