What happened to WordPerfect

The Salt Lake Tribune has an interesting article about the history of WordPerfect's decline and why it only has 20 million users verus Microsoft Word's 150 million users (Whatever happened to Wordperfect?). One of WP's original partners said of MS back when WP's troubles started:

Then "they bundled a number of their products: Word, Powerpoint and Excel, and literally gave them away."

I've never had a need to use Powerpoint. I use and like Excel a lot. I don't particularly care for Word. I talk to people all the time who use Word and struggle with it, but they continue to stay with it because that's all their employer will provide.

In the beginning, tech support was free.

I remember things going drastically wrong for them when that ended.

Whatever made people switch to Microsoft was another matter... that stuff's expensive.

That said, I love excel (and when I'm at work, access is a beautiful thing that no one seems to like). Everyone wants to use Powerpoint, though, and I can't stand it.

For you, Ben, I would provide free telephone tech support.
