My life in music: The formative years
Just in time, since I haven't posted anything here in a while, I got this meme from Callimachus who started with 1973 and stopped with 1984. It goes like this:
1984: First newspaper job: "Beat It" Michael Jackson
Comment: This was the year I gave up altogether on contemporary popular music. I listened to the Byrds, the Blasters, the Pogues, Nick Lowe, whatever I liked, and began following the threads. Basically, I never turned on the radio again.
Grammy Records of the Year from 1959 to present.
Instead of reliving all those years, I decided to just do the four preceding years:
1969: The year Gary L. showed me how to let my hair down in the back row of social studies class. "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel.
- Comment: I had this record.
1970: The year Gary L. and I got sent to the principals office for getting too rowdy in the back row of math class. "Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In" The 5th Dimension.
- Comment: I not only had this record, I thought the seventh house would be a cool place to live.
1971: The year Gary L. hot wired a teacher's car and took me joyriding on our lunch hour. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" Simon & Garfunkel.
- Comment: I had this record and things were starting to make sense.
1972: The last time I saw Gary L. as they hauled him away in handcuffs. "It's Too Late" Carole King.
- Comment: I had this record and I wore it out.
