Welcome back, Abe

This weekend may go down as one of the biggest, most sophisticated and memorable historic events Springfield has seen since Abraham Lincoln's farewell address after being elected to the White House. Or not.

The all new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum is being dedicated this weekend. Festivities start Saturday morning (April 16, 2005) with a block party and end with a public dedication next Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I won't be able to attend any of the free events. And, due to money constraints, I won't be attending any of the non-free events, either, like the $500 a plate recreated 1860's era White House state dinner. Although, I'd love to go. It's actually a fund raiser for the foundation.

For security reasons, it's a big secret which dignitaries, if any, will be attending. It's doubtful we'll be seeing folks like Abe, Ulysses, Stephen, Frederick, or Sojourner. At least not the real ones, anyway.

Speaking of security, the banned items list includes, Back-packs, duffle bags, Alcohol, glass, glass bottles, cans, coolers, Weapons of any kind - including firearms, pocket knifes, Umbrellas, Mopeds, bicycles, scooters, roller blades, skateboards.
