Can you imagine the psychological impact that this building must have had upon common folk wheeling in from their farmers to buy goods in Springfield?
It must have given them a sense of being part of a greater good - similar to the effect a cathedral or temple would have had.

One of these days we're going to bump into one another with cameras in hand!
