Five in the fast lane
- In Chicago, they call it the expressway. Down here, we call it the highway.
- They call it the underpass or overpass. We call it, the bridge or speed trap.
- In Chicago, entire neighborhoods were decimated by cutting the expressway through the city. Back here on the prairie, we build entire neighborhoods around the highway.
- There, graffiti artists decorate the vast expanses of concrete for your viewing pleasure. Here, deer saunter across the highway and smash into your car.
- There, they have express lanes. Here, we have the shoulder.
Inspired by "Gapers Block: Bringing Life to the Underpasses," an essay by Craig Berman, a design engineer with amazing ideas.

Nice list. Thanks for the kind words-- by the way, I'm not an engineer. :-)
