Big wind

We had a big wind storm mixed with sprinkles and falling branches blow through early this evening for about ten minutes. A very large branch from the maple tree in our backyard fell on our electric lines. It knocked the power out to our house and my neighbor to the north, but not the south. The power company came by after about three hours and fixed it. I would have snapped some pictures of the repair man in action up in his cherry picker, but the battery had died on my camera.

Marie,

Remember your photographer's creed?

Never, ever, ever get caught without a spare set of batteries!

I have a set in the camera, and a spare set (actually two) in the charger.

I selected my camera based upon the ability to use regular batteries. Of course no one could afford to keep buying regular batteries at that pace, so I bought a charger, and several sets of high use batteries. It's a great combination!

I learned my lesson after discovering that a relative's digital camera battery had drained during a wedding reception for which I took the photographs. They didn't actually blame me, but the questions they asked sounded as if they did.

I did manage to take dozens of photographs but all the demands of the flash unit killed the battery.

When they came back from their honeymoon they said, "Well, the battery held up just fine for us". As if somehow "I" had made the difference.

I knew from that experience that I would never allow that to happen when I was taking photographs with my digital camera.

Spare battery and charger are on my list of things to get. It's a really long list.
