Interesting you should pick 1974. Lately I've been hearing a lot of those songs on the radio, in stores and on TV for some reason.

I'm especially reminded of that summer (1974) which was between 8th grade and high school for me. It was one of those no-mans-land summers that didn't quite fit the era of my life I was leaving behind nor the part of life I was about to enter (the summer of 1978, after high school, was similar in that regard).

It really is amazing how a song can immerse you in an aura of the time you used to hear it a lot. I think only smells so a better job of being vehicles of time travel.

By the way, in just the last two days I've heard both "The Night Chicago Died" and "Rock the Boat".
And looking at that list I think there were only two or three songs I couldn't conjure up and hear in my head as I read them.
