George Ryan trial kick off

Former Illinois governor, George Ryan's corruption trial got started in federal court in Chicago today. I'm following the goings on at WBBM's Ryan Trial Blog.

The trial is expected to last at least four months.

I'm curious where the Ryans are staying during the court proceedings. Do they have a condo in Chicago? Is someone putting them up in a spare room? Or, are they driving home to Kankakee every night? At 60 miles down I-57, surely not?

So far, fourteen prospective jurors have been questioned.

I know it's too early to call, and I have no evidence to base this on, but, I predict he'll get acquitted on all 22 counts. Of course, I may change my mind as the trial progresses.

Marie, that's a beautiful drive down the Dan Ryan and I-57. I think I can list every exit between the Stevenson and Bourbonnais, with historical and cultural highlights for many nearby locales.

Not that that has anything to do with the former governor and where he might be staying.

I can't get past memories of trying to stay awake on the stretch between Champaign and Kankakee. I know a lot of people commute every day for an hour or more to and from Chicago, but for some reason I don't see the Ryans doing that. I don't know.
