Google quietly enters feed reader market

Just found out Google has a feed reader. Amazing, yes, because it took 'em long enough. Not so amazing, because it just seems like a logical step by Google to quietly go for total domination in all things all things. But, it's too early to tell if this will be goodbye to Bloglines. I've tried other web based readers, but I always ended up going back to Bloglines. I like Bloglines. I like Google. Suddenly, and regrettably, I find myself singing, "torn between two lovers; feelin' like a fool; lovin' both of you is breakin' all the rules...." Oh, I see there's a way to upload your OPML file. I'll have to look at this more when I get home tonight. Torn between two readers and I haven't even tried one yet....

I love the *idea* of the feed readers; in practice, I've found them something less than compelling or super-useful; mostly, I have found them to be something else I couldn't keep up with. It could be that my reading habit is so aimless and random and driven by impulse that a feed reader just doesn't help.

That having been said, I tried Google's just now, and it's having some sort of problem and isn't working at all at the moment.

I wasn't able to import the OPML file I had exported from Bloglines. I manually added a couple feeds, and I don't like it. I can't even find a way for the reader to show me how many unread posts there were in each feed. I'll try again maybe when they have things more refined. Bloglines does everything I need it to do.
