Weiner roast

We all got together one last time to cook hotdogs on an outdoor fireplace at the bottom of a gully. In addition to hotdogs, the menu consisted of potato chips, beer, orange soda, and marshmallows. Someone brought a really good pickle relish. I mention the pickle relish only because I can't recall ever having such a delicious pickle relish.

We wore hats made out of newspaper for protection.

We played horseshoes.

As darkness fell, the air became cold. And, I knew the food and fun would soon have to end.

At the time, we didn't know it would be the last time. It just never happened again. Forty years ago. Jack and Ginny. Bob and Alice. Hog and Shortie. Bob and Georgia. John and Bonnie. Wheel and Myrt. And a bunch of kids.

Sounds like it must have been fun. But "Hog and Shortie"? Can't say as I would choose either one for a name. Must be a good story behind their origins.

Now that's a good idea!

A weenie roast!

A nice scene, Marie. The beginning of a little writing experiment? It's got a striking tone and some good possibilities.

I remember the weenie roast, the outdoor brick barbeque fireplace, the gully, the temperature. It was Hawguy.
