Lincoln links

  • The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and Horace Mann (insurance company especially for educators) are offering fellowships to study the life of Abraham Lincoln. There will be 50 fellowships in all – one for each state – awarded to Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers.
  • This is a very interesting idea that other communities should jump on and copy. The Quincy, Illinois, city council is forming its own 25 person Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (Whig.com). Quincy was the site of the sixth Lincoln-Douglas debate, by the way.
  • Speaking of the debates, about ten years ago, C-SPAN did re-enactments of the debates in the same locations that Lincoln and Stephen Douglas did them. The C-SPAN store is offering DVDs (or tapes) of those re-enactments at the reduced price of $39.95 per debate.
  • Still on the subject of the debates, the National Park Service has typed transcripts of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
