Love the color photo that looks black and white. Very cool shot.

With digital photography what ends up black and white, vs color, or any shade of any color we get to pick.

I too use black and white images.

They speak out better when my mind sees a pattern which doesn't depend upon the presence of color.

For example my recent post of a tree's warped branches in the snow. Black and white worked perfectly for that shot - much better than color.

Or my most recent photopost of the Abraham Lincoln Home in Springfield, Illinois which I employed high contrast in to give it a distant look - with snow in the foreground.

I also liked going black and white on that last photo because it absolutely contrasted with the photograph posted immediately prior to it which was a riot of colors - captioned "Christmas Colors" which was obtained by imaging a cluster of yet to be installed christmas lights.

I understand from looking at the pattern of your photo used for this posting what you were getting at - the pattern of light vs. shadow - and the shapes of those patters contrasted over the pattern of masonry flooring. Nice shot - especially since you first saw the image in color, but most likely knew it wouldn't work well in color compared to black and white.

Thinking in black and white is both challenging, and fun.

It is color. The only processing done was the "I'm feeling lucky" button in Picasa which whitened the whites and darkened the darks, and resizing.
