Two ships by the same name
The second most frequent query I get on this weblog is about the USS Nassau. Just to be clear, the "Nassau" name has been bestowed on two U.S. Navy ships.
The first was a small aircraft carrier, a/k/a baby flattop, that served during World War II and was later scrapped. The second is a much larger amphibious assault ship that was commissioned in 1979 and serves to this day.
