Springfield Blogger: A Shareware Life

This time, my little weekly review experiment will lead us to the deepest, darkest depths of the mind of a [cue scary organ music] software writer. Mwa ha. Yes, there are actually people in Springfield who don't eat, drink, sleep, breathe, and work state government.

  • A Shareware Life - Tagline: Rants about shareware marketing, the life of a shareware author, and everything else

Thomas Warfield. What can I say. I've been reading A Shareware Life for a couple years, about. This was the fourth or fifth blog I found from Springfield. Initially, I was simply fascinated by the fact that there was someone else out there. Then, it was like, oh my gosh, there's a blogger who isn't blogging politics day and night. So, even though I'm not in the software development world, I always find myself compelled to check in and see what he has to say.

Thomas is the author of Pretty Good Solitaire (640 solitaire games). He not only writes the software, he even distributes it. And, he's successful at it. From what I gather, this is a big deal in the software world.

In addition to talking about the life of a shareware author, he often discusses current issues, and sometimes touches on the matter of privacy and security. While many of his topics might seem to be from the view of a self-employed person who writes and sells software, I think A Shareware Life is a worthwhile read for just about anyone.

And, as an added bonus, we get two blogs for the price of one. He also writes another blog:

And, no, it's not about trading solitaire games. It's about his adventures in buying and selling in the stock market. I just started reading this blog, but so far, it's been very interesting.

From what I can tell, Thomas makes his living writing and selling computer solitaire games and trading in the stock market. An enviable life, from my perspective.

A Shareware Life may not be widely read in Springfield. But, I can tell you this, the few times he has linked to my blog, readers came here in droves from all over the world. Oh, I almost forgot. Be sure to check out his Friday cat blogging pictures. Every Friday, as it happens.
