Cheryl on a Saturday night

From the time she was in middle school, Cheryl's obsession was to live in the city. Her daydreams were filled with visions of what Saturday nights in the city must be like.

But, her travels to the city consisted only of taking the train to work in the morning, and taking the train home after work. She was a commuter. A suburban commuter.

She never stayed after work for drinks with her co-workers. She never ventured downtown on a Saturday night. Although, she longed to.

Instead, Cheryl consigned herself to a life of watching the night skyline from her parents' porch in the south suburbs. To a life of dreaming. And wishing that could be her.

Until one day, at the age of 49, she found the courage. She was giddy with excitement as her parents waved her goodbye. She got in her 1979 Pontiac, and drove the three short blocks to the expressway that would take her to the city.

On a Saturday night.
