Photo not taken: Crow convention

Monday night, early Tuesday morning, in the fenced in back lot of the state surplus warehouse, all in neat rows, silently sitting on the asphalt, approximately three to four thousand large black crows.

Does anyone know anything about crow behavior?

I had never seen anything like this before. It was creepy and made my skin crawl.

Last evening - July 1, 2006 - in west Los Angeles, during about a 20 minute period hundreds of crows flew in the same direction to what appeared the same destination. Some were solo, others were in groups of 5 to 20. At the time, I thought too that this must be some kind of "crow convention." The time was after 7:30 pm when crows usually are settling in for the night. I'm very curious to know the purpose of this behavior, too.
