Five momentarily consuming things

  1. I try to keep a magnifying glass and a flashlight nearby at all times. Just in case. Not that I'm blind. And, not that it's dark in here. But, sometimes they come in handy when trying to see into dark little enclosed spaces. I had the magnifying glass in my hands just a few minutes ago, and now I've misplaced it.
  2. Why am I so hard on mice (the computer variety)? That's what I had the magnifying glass out for.
  3. My daughter took a very cool photo of her friend leaning against the St. Louis Arch.
  4. I see More Arches.
  5. The other night I was halfway watching "Broken Trail," a western mini-series with Robert Duvall, while at the same time halfway reading the Amazon customer reviews for "Blazing Saddles." I became totally disoriented. I'm better now.

Do you know that I lived in St. Louis for more than two years and I never once made it up in the Arch? Now I'll probably never get back there. And, FYI, the shape of the Arch is an inverted catenary, a catenary being the shape a rope makes when it's suspended by its ends. I'll leave now.

Kem, I'm always learning something new from you. I appreciate knowing that about the catenary. I don't know how, but I'm sure I will find a way to use this information sometime.
