The Gray Lady comes to Springfield

... and she likes us!

Springfield is the latest city the New York Times has visited in its 36 Hour travel series.

Of particular interest is this reference to the Springfield Hilton:

At 30 stories, it’s far and away the tallest building in Springfield; “the flashlight” is one of its nicknames.

There are two interesting points there. One, I did not know it was called "the flashlight." Good to know when discussing the building in polite conversation. And, two, whether or not the 30-story Hilton is Springfield's tallest building has been the subject of many a drunken (and sober) dispute over the years. For some people. But, not for readers of this weblog.

Anyway, it's nice to get some big time recognition.

Caught this in two places: Class of 58, and The Eleventh Hour. Thanks, guys.

Um ... I've heard the Hilton called a nickname ... but it sure wasn't "flashlight" ... LOL

I don't even think I can repeat the nickname on a family blog. LOL

That's some good press for the patch...but did she squeeze in any good music?

When you highlighted that building in that earlier entry, I did not associate it with any inappropriate symbol. For better or worse, now I do.

Marty, Looks like she just hit some basic tourist spots and restaurants.

Rob, Even though height-wise, it's up there with the Statehouse, the Hilton is pretty much the thing you see wherever you go in this town. Just thought you'd appreciate that mental image.
