Stuart Hughes in Beirut

I'm sure I've mentioned Stuart Hughes at least a couple times on this blog before. He's a producer, reporter, writer, broadcaster for the BBC. He's presently in Beirut, Lebanon, reporting on the fighting between Israel and Lebanon.

I first started reading Stuart's blog... I think it was more than three years ago (at the beginning of the U.S. war on Iraq). Anyway, it was a day or two after he had his leg amputated. As I recall, he was reporting from Northern Iraq, about to get a story, but had to stop for a moment to take cover from gunfire (or was it missile fire), and upon getting out of the transport vehicle, stepped on an anti-personnel landmine.

A colleague of Stuart's who was with him in the same incident, lost his life.

I've followed Stuart through his blog ever since. Despite the fact that he's a foreign correspondent, war reporter, and amputee, he's a very sunny fellow. And, quite the athlete. And, he's an excellent writer and story teller.

I highly recommend his blog for anyone at all interested in behind the scenes action over there beyond what we're getting in the regular press.
