The intermittent sound of fwunk fwunk fwunk
We were awakened at 4:55 this morning to the sound of a huge military helicopter hovering overhead. The blades sounded like they were moving in super slow motion. Low and deep. Fwunk. Long pause. Fwunk. Long pause. Fwunk.
Were they on a training exercise? Over a mostly residential neighborhood? In the middle of Illinois? That is dangerous. Or, was it something else, the likes of which I can only imagine. Or, something unimaginable, perhaps.
I didn't go outside, though. Not because I was afraid there might be a floodlight shone in my face and a bullhorn instructing me to, "get back in your home." No. I was just too tired and went right back to sleep.
