Trouble with AT&T 984 and 945 phones

When my office moved on November 1 of last year, we went from a one line with call waiting system to a three line system. We're using lines 1 and 2 for talk, and line 3 for DSL, dedicated fax, and possibly, in the future, some other mechanical thing.

We bought two AT&T phones: A 984 and a 945 for our talking lines. I don't want to say these phones suck. Yet. So far, I haven't been able to use the intercom function. I had the answering machine function working, but not any more. There are other problems I can't recall right now. I have wasted more time trying to figure out the phones and the user manuals.

I found a tech support phone number for these phones at AT&T. I'm going into the office an hour early in the morning so I can deal with getting them working right. I hope it's worth the extra time.

The 974 manual is available online at AT&T and discusses DSL installation and the need for DSL splitters. The 984 manual is probably also available online. Perhaps this will help:
