Illinois governor's mansion

Well hidden and in need of some serious tree trimming. No one lives there. Fifth and Jackson, Springfield, Illinois.

Why does no one live there?

Well, I would say that our governor prefers to drive or fly back and forth everyday from his home in Chicago. But, he rarely ever comes to Springfield, the seat of government of Illinois!

Speaking of mansions, Marie, I just noticed that the U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill that will allow the National Park Service to enlarge the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site (see -- wait long enough and there's a Prairie State connection). Here's the thing that's surprising to me in my near-perfect ignorance of Sandburg's life: The home site is in North Carolina (the site: http://www.nps.gov/carl/planyourvisit/index.htm). It's sort of a book-end to that Robert Todd Lincoln estate in ... Vermont, is it?
