Elvis Presley died 30 years ago today. Even though it would be many years before I, at the age of 20, could begin to appreciate his music and his contribution to rock 'n roll, I remember being very upset upon hearing the news. I still don't care for his movies. But that's normal. Right?

Following is today's KFOG 10@10 in memory of Elvis:

  1. Blue Suede Shoes (most rockin' version - maybe)
  2. That's Alright
  3. Don't Be Cruel
  4. (Marie's the Name of) His Latest Flame (this would be my other best of set*)
  5. U.S. Male
  6. Return to Sender
  7. Viva Las Vegas
  8. GI Blues
  9. Can't Help Falling in Love
  10. Suspicious Minds (this would be my best of set*)
  11. Kentucky Rain
  12. She's Not You
  13. BONUS TRACK: - All Shook Up

The 10@10 gets repeated every night (10:00 San Francisco time; midnight Central Time).

* Since KFOG didn't show a best of set this time.

In retrospect I'm sorry Elvis died. But at the time I was working a summer job in a factory that packaged pool chemicals. (I worked on the liquid pool chlorine line.) When I got to work that morning all the blue-collar ladies were crying and upset at the news. Elvis wasn't directly part of the hard rock music I listened to, so I was a little confused by their reaction. He had become something of a caricature for people my age.

I think I liked his movies although I haven't seen one in many years. They were out around the same time as the Beach Blanket Bingo series and I kinda liked those, too. Those and the Doris Day movies were big at the Ferrara house.

No Love Me Tender on that list?
