Quoting Captain Video

From a comment on ArchPundit: Unfortunate Moments in Eating Your Own Words:

CaptainVideo: I would conjecture that the reason that there are so many cases of Republicans being unmasked as family values hypocrites is that many of them do not really believe in the values of the social conservatives. For many of them family values are simply a ploy to con lower income people into voting against their economic self-interest by voting for the party of the rich, which shafts them economically.

And so we are finding out.

I agree with the hypocrisy. It is started to become more common in the GOP that we have these 2 faced individuals who preach one thing to the rest of us but then do not lead the type of lives that they tell us we should lead.

However, the democrats have their own collection of strange birds too. Remember Barney Frank's "roommate" who was running a prostitution ring out of his home. And of course one of the leader of the democrats is a former high ranking KKK member, Robert Byrd. So I think there is enough hypocrisy to go around.

Regarding lower income people voting for the GOP. I am somewhat torn on this. A different way of phrasing your comments about the GOP being the party of the rich could be that the GOP is the party of opportunity. For over 50 years, minorities and lower income people have overwhelmingly voted for democrats. Has this vote been wasted? These groups are in the same situation that they were in despite voting for the democrats. Basically, I am claiming that the democratic leadership preaches one thing but then really does nothing to help the poor and minorities. Does expanding welfare really help poor people make a significant difference in the long run? I dont think so. Furthermore, there are many more millionaires in the democratic leadership positions than there are in the GOP.

But back to your main point aobut the hypocrisy with family values, I must admit that you are right. Good post!

Hey, I sympathize with Larry Craig. It's so easy to have your intentions misconstrued in public washrooms. On the upside, he's now this year's leading contender for the G. Harrold Carswell Republican Restroom Shenanigans Award.
