Random shooting?

From Tuesday's "Police Beat" in the SJ-R:

A woman was shot in the leg while in a car stopped at Taylor Avenue and Stevenson Drive Monday night.
Police were alerted to the shooting about 10 p.m. when the victim, whose name and age weren't released, showed up at St. John's Hospital.
Initial reports indicated the woman was a passenger in the car, which was headed south, when the occupant or occupants of another nearby vehicle opened fire.
The victims, who were still upset while being interviewed at the hospital, were only able to describe the vehicle from which the shots were fired as tan-colored, police said.
Several patrons at Starship Billiards said they heard five gunshots and then saw a vehicle speed away westbound on Stevenson.
It was not immediately known what prompted the shooting.

We need the police to find out what prompted the shooting and if this was random or if someone in the car was an intended victim. Then, they need to let us know.

Well, my first reaction to this is to think how common it is in places near where I live. San Francisco and Oakland are having an epidemic of this kind of thing. But it's great that it's a remarkable occurrence where you live, and you're right that the police and media need to be all over what happened -- complacency is one way that this becomes unremarkable.
