SJ-R budget hits employees

Buried in the business section of today's paper:

The State Journal-Register has offered a voluntary severance program to nearly 150 employees, the company announced Monday. The newspaper also is negotiating with its collective bargaining units to be able to make the same offer to 47 union employees. (SJ-R offers voluntary severance program.)

Though no where is it mentioned in the article, this has Gatehouse written all over it.

Listening to: Smiling Faces by The Undisputed Truth. (Completely unintentional.)

Update: Read Billy Dennis's post, and the comments, on the same topic: GateHouse trying to eliminate 149 newspaper jobs in Springfield

Yes, it has Gatehouse written all over it. Very sorry to hear it -- it sucks for the employees and the readers; it makes eminent sense on the bottom line, I'm sure.

Ugh. It's a sign of the times. The online news revolution cannot happen quick enough for me.
