Miscellaneous stuff in 5

  1. The Washington Post goes to Southern Illinois to find out why people like Barack Obama: Rural Illinois May Offer Clues to Obama's Electability | Courting of Rural Areas Began in '96.
  2. The State Journal-Register talks to Dick Durbin about possible Obama running mates: Durbin not on Obama's VP list | Constitution doesn't allow senior lawmaker to run
  3. Police officer in Cedar Rapids gets nasty on a citizen as flood waters recede: "I'll make sure you never come back here again - until this is all over," after he busted the guy's door open (last 20 seconds of this 2 minute 19 second video; article)
  4. An unnamed Republican Senator invokes rarely used Senate Judiciary Committee rule to silence testimony - two days in a row. We can't ask him why, because we don't know who. (Video; Leahy statement; via)
  5. Steve Rosenbaum thinks John McCain will quit the election before the Republican convention: When McCain Drops Out

Okay, maybe #3 doesn't really fit with the other 4. Or, maybe it does.

#5 shouldn't happen... esp since (a) Dems use "superdelegates" to allow that to happen on the left side if necessary, and (b) Repubs have been criticising that practice for years. Like it or not, they're stuck with mcCain.

In Arizona, we kept hoping that JM was just a front for somebody else, but it never happened. My guess is that if they put Dole up, they'll put anybody against a sure thing.

But I gues we'll see.
