The day in Illinois politics
What an emotional month and a half topped off by an even more emotional day. Sometimes it was like having major surgery with no anesthesia. I can only imagine what it was like for the people who were directly affected by the former governor.
Illinois has turned a page. There's a lot of hope that Governor Quinn will set a new standard for openness and honesty in Illinois government. And, hopefully, we'll never go back to the old way of doing things. It's a given, but I have to say it anyway: I hope all the best for the new governor. And for us all.
Saving the following links, like a souvenir:
- Quinn at the ready
- Final day impeachment trial roundup
- The prosecution makes its closing arguments
- The governor speaks *** Refuses to resign: “I have done nothing wrong” ***
- The prosecution’s rebuttal
- The Senate deliberates
- The vote *** SENATE VOTES TO REMOVE GOVERNOR FROM OFFICE 59-0 *** DISQUALIFIED FROM HOLDING FUTURE PUBLIC OFFICE 59-0 ***
- 59-0
- Quinn sworn in *** Granberg likely out at IDNR; Parks, historical sites to reopen; Pontiac, IDOT moves to be “reviewed” ***
A huge thanks to Rich Miller of the Capitol Fax Blog for all his work. In case anyone doesn't realize, Rich gets paid to write about Illinois politics, both as a columnist and as publisher of the CapitolFax. But, everyday he's there writing for the non-paying public for free on his blog. And he keeps everything straight and doesn't let people go off the deep end. And unlike the national media, he gets us educated as opposed to stupid. He does an amazing job. Thank you, Rich for all you do and for the community that has developed around your blog.
