BB gun crimes [updated]

See below for new additions.

Has anyone noticed an increase in BB gun crimes? These are just from the last two weeks in and around Springfield:

  1. Man accused of brandishing BB gun on I-55 (actually, not so close to Springfield)
  2. Boys arrested for allegedly pointing BB gun at traffic
  3. Student hit with BB at Lanphier High School
  4. Police confiscate BB pistol from two 17-year-olds
  5. Handguns reportedly spotted in mall turn out to be BB pistols
  6. Genoa Drive home peppered with BBs

I thought there was another one where a lady got shot, but I could be wrong as I can't seem to find it now. In any event, idiocy.

And now a word from our sponsor.................. (And, yes, that really is Jimi Hendrix on guitar back there.)

My wife's nephew (16 or 17 at the time) and his friend were horsing around one day and his friend shot him with his BB gun. It was bad enough to take him to the emergency room and the doctors were obligated to report it. It's serious business in Louisiana. It's a gun crime. Forgot what the charges were but that kid was in a lot of trouble.

We had a BB pistol when I was a kid. It was pretty low velocity: you could see the BBs it shot if you looked closely. One winter night I stalked one of my brothers and shot him with the pistol; the BB hit his coat and made a fairly loud thwack and scared him. I was not smart enough not to horse around with the damned thing, though that was the one and only time I shot at someone.

On the other end of our road, some kids goofing around with a BB gun did the classic thing: one shot another and just missed hitting him in the eye--the BB lodged in the victim's eyelid.

No cops involved in either incident.
